American Legion Georgia Auxiliary Scholarships

To qualify for this scholarship you must be a Georgia resident who is the dependent of a veteran or deceased veteran, and either you or a parent must be a member or participant of an American Legion Auxiliary, and be sponsored by that unit.

Bern Laxer Memorial Scholarship

Have you ever dreamed of a career in the hotel industry or in culinary arts? Do you already have one year’s experience in the culinary industry, a high school diploma or equivalency? Are you going to require some financial assistance to go on to school? Then this just might be the one to make your dreams come true.

This scholarship can be used either for undergraduate study at an accredited university or a licensed or accredited culinary school. You must major in one of the following to qualify: culinary arts, hotel administration/management, food/science/technology, or viticulture/oenology. William L. Boyd, IV, Florida Resident Access Grant Program

If you want to stay in the state to study, this program covers most of the public or private 4-year institutions here. You must be a full time undergraduate to qualify and it is renewable. The exact amount of the prize is decided each year by the Florida legislature, but is $2,837 in 2010. You are ineligible if you have already received a previous bachelor’s degree, and also may not be used to major in divinity or theology. There is more information and an application on line. Florida Academic Scholars Award

This one is for you students who have maintained a 3.5 GPA, have at least 15 credits in college prep courses, completed 75 hours of community service, and scored a minimum of 1270 on the SAT or 28 on the ACT. And – there are several different ways this award can be given – here they are:

to the student ranking highest academically in each county -- $1,500;
if you plan to attend a public college or university, the award covers full tuition with a $375 stipend; and,
in private schools it will cover an equivalent amount.

Jose Marti Scholarship Challenge Grant Fund

To apply for this $2,000 grant you must be a citizen of Florida, and be the child of the Spanish culture (Mexican American, Hispanic American, or Puerto Rican). Money awarded can be used at 2-year or 4-year colleges in Florida at public or private institutions. To apply you must demonstrate financial need and have a GPA of at least 3.0. For more information, visit your guidance counselor. There are over 50 scholarships of this type awarded each year, so don’t hesitate if you meet the qualifications.

Florida Student Assistance Grant Program

This program is designed for students who require financial help to pursue their education. It can be utilized at either a 2-year or 4-year institution, and is renewable. To apply you must be a Florida resident and be able to demonstrate financial need by completing an FAFSA application, free on line. Deadlines are different at different schools so please check with the college you are interested in attending for theirs. This one is a little different than the one listed above because the applicant can be a child or stepchild – male or female --of an honorably discharged U.S. military veteran, as long as they are sponsored by a local Auxiliary Unit. If selected, the award will provide up to $1,000 for junior college or vocational school and up to $2,000 for a four year college. You must maintain a 2.5 GPA, and the award is renewable. American Legion Florida Auxiliary Memorial Scholarship

Are you a girl? Do you have a parent who has been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Florida Unit for at least three years? If so, you might be eligible for this scholarship. You must be a member yourself, or a daughter or granddaughter of a member, and live in the state of Florida. Application requirements include a recommendation, essay, transcript, proof of eligibility, and income tax forms. This is a renewable scholarship that awards up to $1,000 for junior college or vocational school, and up to $2,000 for four-year colleges. Delaware Nursing Incentive Program

If you’ve always wanted to be a nurse – this loan program is perfect for you! It is designed for study at accredited 2 or 4-year designated institutions with programs that lead to RN, LPN, or BSN certification. To qualify you must be a resident of the state and have a major career interest in the exciting field of nursing, and you must have previously demonstrated high academic skills. You have to be a high school senior in at least the top half of your graduating class, and have at least a 2.5 GPA.

This loan cannot be in excess of the cost of tuition, fees, and other expenses directly related to the cost of your education. Upon graduation, it can be forgiven at the rate of one year working in a state-owned clinic or hospital to forgive one year of loan. Christa McAuliffe Teacher Incentive Program

This program was created to honor the first teacher scheduled to teach from space – Christa McAuliffe – who, along with the rest of the 7-man crew, perished in the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster shortly after lift off in January 1986. Today this program stands as a tribute to her love of teaching by offering loans to qualified students majoring in education who are residents of Delaware.

Besides being an education major, students must be a high school senior with a minimum combined SAT score of 1570, and rank in the top half of their class. Undergraduate students with a GPA of 2.75 may also apply for this program. Loans may not exceed the cost of tuition, fees and other direct costs. Loan may be repaid at the rate of one year teaching in a Delaware public school in exchange for one year of loan.

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship

College is a big step, but you are ready for it! So, before it’s too late, why not apply for a scholarship to help out? This particular scholarship, which awards $1,500, is renewable for up to three years. It applies to full time undergraduate study at a non-profit, regionally accredited university or college. To be eligible you must have demonstrated excellent academic skills by being in the top 25% of your graduating class, or be a GED recipient with a score of at least 300. You also must have a SAT score of at least 1800.

Educational Benefits for Children of Deceased Veterans and Others

As you think about college, if you fall into this category, you have one more chance to honor a mom or dad lost serving our country or community by taking advantage of this opportunity. To qualify for this award you must be at least 16 but no more than 24 years of age, and have lived in Delaware for at least the last three years. Eligible students must be the child of a member of the armed forces whose death was service related, who is or was a POW, or is officially MIA. Also included are state police officers whose death was service related, or an employee of the Department of Transportation working on the state highway system whose death was job related.

Charles L. Hebner Memorial Scholarship

This is a scholarship that will cover full tuition, fees, room and board, and books for a student in the top half of their class, who has a minimum combined score on the SAT of 1350. If you are selected for this award you will be attending the University of Delaware or Delaware State University. Preference will be given to students majoring in political science. Need is also a consideration. This is a renewable award.

B. Bradford Barnes Scholarship

This is for a full-time student, and no declared area of interest is required. You must be a high school senior and a Delaware citizen. You need to be in the top 25% of your class, and have a total score of 1800 on the SAT. Connecticut Independent College Student Grant

Grants are wonderful – they are free money that doesn’t have to be paid back – ever! This grant award is based on financial need. It is to be used for undergrad study in designated private schools in the state of Connecticut and it is renewable each year.

Connecticut Building Congress, Inc.

When you were a kid, did you love Lego’s, and building things. Well if you want to keep right on building in the future, the CBC Scholarship might be right up your alley. It is based on a major interest in engineering, construction or construction management, architecture, or surveying/mapping. The award is based on high academic achievement and demonstrable financial need. You must be a high school senior to apply.

Connecticut Capitol Scholarship Program

If you dream of an out-of-state education, this just might be your ticket! Do you have good grades, good PSAT scores, and can you substantiate financial need? Then you may qualify for this program. The award may be used for undergraduate study in a 2 or 4-year designated institution. These include those in-state as well as those eligible in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington, D.C.

To qualify you must be a high school senior who ranks in the top 20% of your class or have a minimum of 1800 SAT score or minimum 27 ACT score. Connecticut Aid for Public College Students

This program is overseen by the Connecticut Department of Higher Education, and is designed to help Connecticut residents, who are also US citizens, who are in financial need. Monies awarded may be used at either a 2-year or 4-year college, but use is limited to state public colleges or universities. This award is based on need and is designed to fill the gap between the actual cost of school and the amount the student and parents can pay. In most cases it does not have to be repaid.

Arizona Scholarships for Homeschoolers

If you were homeschooled, there is an Arizona scholarship for you. In 2000, the Arizona Families for Home Education (AFHE) formed the Arizona Homeschool Scholarship Committee (AHSC). The Arizona College Scholarship Foundation (ACSF) at http://www.azcsf.org/scholar-programs/scholarship-eligibility.aspx gives scholars up to $6,000 annually to cover the cost of attending college. ACSF scholarship recipients also enjoy a network of support services such as group training and workplace and on-campus mentoring. Imagine going to college for free! This dream is a reality for qualified Arizona students for in-state tuition only. The waiver is valid for a year following high school graduation. This fixed scholarship is renewable for three more years based on university criteria. The dollar amount of the award is based on the tuition charged by the Arizona university you enroll in.

To qualify for an Arizona Board of Regents High Honors Tuition Scholarship you must complete all core competency classes with a grade of B or better, have an unweighted GPA of at least 3.5 and surpass standards on all 3 AIM tests by the end of your junior year in high school. In the 2010-2011 year, the Foundation will award a total of $25,000 in scholarships to students attending accounting programs at one of the four public Arizona universities.
