Successful candidates will be central to the growth of ‘Imaging Life’ activities and will be part of a broader community associated with the 2022 Futures initiative. Imaging is fundamental to our understanding of biological structure and function. The study of cellular processes relies on our ability to visualise cellular components to determine their localisation and interaction with one another. In particular, knowledge has been driven by technological developments in microscopy coupled with the use of labelled molecules within cells enabling key insights into basic processes such as cell growth and division. Existing methods and levels of understanding are being rapidly superseded by new approaches in fluorescence, atomic force and electron microscopy.
