The US embassy in Vietnam has announced Fulbright Student scholarship program which is funded by US Congress. This scholarship program is available for Vietnamese students to pursue master’s degree in various fields (mostly in social sciences and humanities) at US universities. For the academic year 2014-2015, approx 20 to 25 fully-funded scholarships are available which will cover tuition and fees, monthly stipend, round-trip airfare to the US and health insurance. The scholarship program is competitive and will be based on academic and professional merits. The applications will be submitted online by May 2, 2013.

-Demonstrate a clear and detailed description of the study objectives, and show a clear connection between their study objectives and future goals through a compelling set of essays
-Have a depth and breadth of work experience in their intended field of study, and a full understanding of the field
-Demonstrate leadership potential based on the participation in academic, extra-curricular, community and professional development activities, and personal attributes.
-Show dedication to Vietnam & potential impact upon return
-Contribute to promoting the mutual understanding between the people of the United States and Vietnam through educational and cultural exchange activities.
-Have academic excellence and strong English proficiency
-Obtain excellent letters of reference that reflect/cite/support the qualities above

First-Year Student Scholarships

Merit-Based Scholar Awards

Consideration for these awards requires that applications for fall admission (including required  materials needed to complete your application) must be received by April 1, unless otherwise specified. However, for the best overall financial aid package, complete your FAFSA and USM application by February 15, 2013. You will be automatically considered for our merit-based scholarships.

Scholarships are granted and renewable for four years (eight semesters), with full time enrollment, and a minimum grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.  All award amounts are for the academic year, payable in 50% installments during fall and spring semesters.

Award amounts correlate with residency status. In-state students and residents receiving the New England Regional (RSP) tuition rate will both receive the in-state merit-based scholarship amount. Changes in residency status may result in changes to original award amount.

Merit based scholar awards are for eligible incoming first-year students. Transfer students are not eligible to receive these awards. (Transfer student is defined as any student who has attended any postsecondary institution as of the summer following their graduation from high school and beyond. )

Maine Residents

President’s Scholar Award

• $4,000 per academic year by April 1st

• Awarded to incoming first-year students who graduate in the top 10% of their class or with a 3.67 average on a 4.0 scale, and who attain a 1200 SAT (Critical Reading and Math only) or 27 ACT composite score.

Dirigo Scholar Award

• $2,500 per academic year by April 1st
  

• Awarded to incoming first-year students who graduate in the top 30% of their class or with a 3.0 average on a 4.0 scale, and who attain a 1050 SAT (Critical Reading and Math only) or 23 ACT composite score.

USM Scholar Award

• $1,500 per academic year by April 1st

Charles J. Hoff Scholarship

• $3,000 per academic year

• Awarded to incoming first-year students from Maine high schools and transfer students from the Maine Community College System. Preference will be given to graduates of York High School, and transfers from York County Community College. Consideration will also be given to immigrants and refugees, students from single-parent homes, and students with developmental or other learning disabilities. This award is renewable for a minimum of 2 additional years. Recipients are chosen based on academic promise and financial need.

USM Pioneers Program

• The USM Pioneers is a science, technology, engineering, and math scholars program. The next group of ten Pioneers for Fall 2013 will receive a generous scholarship package, a laptop computer, undergraduate research opportunities, paid internships with Maine companies, premium housing in a learning community environment, faculty mentors, and networking opportunities with Maine businesses and government leaders. Pioneer applicants must be high school students, admitted into one of the following USM “STEM” (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) majors: Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Science, General Science, Geosciences, Industrial Technology, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Natural and Applied Sciences, Physics. Pioneers will be selected on the basis of their academic achievement, particularly in the areas of math and science.

Program Description Google and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) have partnered to provide financial resources to high-performing Latino undergraduate and graduate students interested in a career in the field of computer science. Awards are in the amount of $10,000 and are disbursed in Fall 2013. Awardees will be invited to attend Google’s Scholars’ Retreat held in summer 2013 with all expenses paid. Imperial College London and the Imperial College India Foundation have come together to offer assistance for PhD.

Imperial College London and its Indian supporters association, the Imperial College India Foundation, have launched a new scholarship programme for academically outstanding Indian students to study for a PhD at Imperial in London. Two full PhD studentships, each lasting three years, are available for Indian nationals who also reside in India, provided by the alumni and supporters of the foundation.

The aim of the Imperial College India Foundation PhD Scholarships is to attract the most talented Indian students to the college, with a focus on supporting those in financial need. Students will be given access to world class academic training and support throughout their PhD, which can help them contribute to society, industry and academia upon their return to India.

Imperial College London’s President & Rector, Sir Keith O’Nions said, “Imperial College London is proud to have an association with India and Indian higher education institutions which goes back many decades. The generosity of our Indian alumni, in supporting gifted postgraduates through these new scholarships, helps us build on this for the future.”

The launch of the scholarships coincides with an eight day trip by Imperial College London’s President and Rector Sir Keith O’Nions to India this month. During the trip to Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore the President & Rector will host a number of alumni receptions, address a British Council/UNESCO event and meet with representatives from government, industry, and higher education institutions.

Applicants for the Imperial College India Foundation PhD Scholarships for 2013 will be assessed on both academic merit and financial need, with priority to students who have not already completed a degree at a higher education institution outside India, according to British Council staff.

For entry in 2013, the College invites applications for study in the following departments: Aeronautics, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computing, Earth Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Materials, Mechanical Engineering and Imperial College Business School. A committee comprising Foundation members and College academic staff will select candidates.
