If you live in Sub Sahara Africa and considering university study in Mauritius, then you could be eligible for this fellowship which is accessible for Sub Saharan African students. IDRC fund 32 master’s fellowship in social protection at University of Mauritius. The fellowship will cover your full tuition fees, return airfare in economy class and medical insurance. In addition to this, it will support towards your living costs. It aims to strengthen the capacity of policy analysts and professionals who are responsible for the financial planning and management of social protection schemes across sub-Saharan Africa and to enable them to understand how they can effectively deal with the welfare needs of the poor and the informal sector. Candidates are selected through two annual competitions.

Eligibility:
Applicants who have completed any test taken within the last three years with scores above the threshold for eligibility (e.g. GMAT Score  ? 500 for admission in MBA) will normally be considered for entry to Postgraduate Programmes.

Scholarship Open for International Students: The students from Sub Saharan African countries are eligible to apply.

Scholarship Description: Improving and extending the coverage of social protection is a major challenge in Africa, where less than 10% of the population has access to social security programs. The aim of this award project is to strengthen the capacity of policy analysts and professionals responsible for the financial planning and management of social protection schemes across sub-Saharan Africa, and understand how they can effectively address the welfare needs of the poor and the informal sector. IDRC will support 32 masters of science fellowships in social protection financing at the University of Mauritius, to be selected through two annual competitions. Course work developed with the support of the International Labour Organization will have a strong emphasis on quantitative training. Students will also undertake some research and analysis on such issues as social protection and its linkages to the informal sector, financing options, or new social benefits, which respond to IDRC’s Supporting Inclusive Growth (SIG) thematic priorities. Ideally, the research findings will subsequently be used by masters graduates to inform policy discussions in their countries.

Number of Awards: IDRC will support 32 masters of Science fellowships in social protection financing at the University of Mauritius.

What does it Covers: The fellowship will cover the following expenditures:
-Return airfare in economy class
-Full Tuition Fees
-Contribution towards living costs
-Medical Insurance Cover.

Selection Criteria: A fellowship committee consisting of representatives of the UOM TRUST, the ILO and the IDRC will screen and rank eligible applicants based on rules and regulations set out by the University of Mauritius as per Section 7 – Selection of Postgraduate Applicants on Taught Programmes. Marks will therefore be awarded for relevant educational qualifications and relevant work experience. Additional consideration will also be given to the motivation and commitment of the applicant as expressed in his /her letter of motivation.
