Eligibility: Master’s in chemical engineering/biochemical engineering/chemistry or related discipline. Practical experience in the field of microbiology, fermentation techniques, chromatography analysis, mass spectrometry and/or molecular biology is an asset. Computer knowledge preferably includes programming skills and experience with different statistical techniques is an advantage. Candidates should be proficient in English and French.

Scholarship Description: The main research directions will include degradation of emerging contaminants, such as fragrance molecules, pharmaceuticals from wastewater and wastewater sludge and their fate. Use of different chemical-biological strategies, such as microwave, ultrasonication, Fenton and enzymes to carry out the degradation will be investigated. The study of degradation by-products (mechanism) and their eventual toxicity and estrogenicity will also be carried out.
