Taiwan/ROC – PIF Scholarship Scheme for Citizens of Forum Island Country

Pacific Islands Forum SecretariatThe Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat is inviting applications for 2013 Taiwan/ROC – PIF Scholarship Scheme. The scholarship is open for the citizens of Forum Island Country to pursue full or part time studies at certificate, diploma, undergraduate or postgraduate levels at accredited tertiary institutions in FICs and Taiwan/Republic of China. The scholarship covers tuition fees, text book, living and accommodation allowances, medical insurance and one return economy airfare to the country of study. Applications for this intake will close on 5th April 2013.


Study Subject(s): Scholarships are provided to study within the specified priority fields of each country.
Course Level: Scholarships will be awarded for full or part time studies at certificate, diploma, undergraduate or postgraduate levels at accredited tertiary institutions in FICs and Taiwan/Republic of China.

Scholarship can be taken at: Scholarships are tenable at accredited tertiary institutions in FICs and Taiwan/Republic of China.


Eligibility: Applicants must:

-be a citizen of a Forum Island Country and a resident in a Forum Island Country for five years prior to application, excluding years of study overseas

-be applying to commence a new programme of study and not be seeking support for study already commenced

-have been accepted into a programme of study and institution, or should show proof of application when requested

-be under 35 years old for undergraduate courses or under 40 years old for postgraduate courses

-be in good health, and not hold a criminal record

-be able to take up the award within the scholarship year

-not be under any bonding requirements at the commencement of this award.


Scholarship Open for International Students: The citizens of Forum Island Country (Australia, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Republic of Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu) can apply for this scholarship.


Scholarship Description: The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat is seeking applications for the 2013 Taiwan/ROC-PIFS Scholarships. The Forum Secretariat manages the scholarship scheme which was formally established in March 2001. “They welcome the initiative by Taiwan/ROC towards enhancing educational experiences and opportunities in the Pacific,” said the Acting Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, Ms Andie Fong Toy. “This is an added boost to the building of our human resources capacity through higher education, a key tool for development in the Pacific.” The scheme is open to citizens of Forum Island Countries wishing to commence study in Semester two of the 2013 academic year. The scheme provides successful applicants with support for tuition, text books, allowances, medical insurance, and one return airfare to the country of study. Scholarships will be awarded for full or part-time studies at certificate, diploma, undergraduate or postgraduate levels within specified priority fields.


What does it cover? The scholarship covers tuition fees, text book, living and accommodation allowances (special conditions apply for the accommodation allowance), medical insurance, and one return economy airfare to the country of study.

Note: There are no allowances for dependants.


Selection Criteria: Selection will be on the basis of fulfillment of the eligibility requirements and merit within the priority fields of each country. Gender equity will also be considered.


How to Apply: The completed applications should be sent by post to: Programme Implementation Officer, Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, Private Mail Bag, Suva, Fiji. Applications can also be submitted by email to info-at forumsec.org.fj or by fax.
Applicants should follow the following procedures:

-obtain forms from your National Scholarship Office; Smaller Island States Desk Officer in your country; download forms or collect forms from the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, Suva, Fiji

-ensure that all sections of the application form is completed with certified supporting documents attached

-ensure that the completed application is endorsed by the National Scholarship Authority and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (or External Affairs) prior to submission to the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat.


Scholarship Application Deadline: Applications for this intake will close on April 5, 2013.
