KU Leuven University offers PhD Scholarship in development of a innovative feeding system for fattening pigs based on economic measures in Belgium. Duration of doctoral scholarship is three years. It is a research position in a project with a clear intention to complete a PhD at the KU Leuven within a period of 4 years. Students must have a master’s or equivalent degree in (bio, agricultural-) engineering (electrical, computer, civil, etc.) or relevant field with an interest in animal production, data analysis and model based control.  Student must own a driving license. Eligibility:-The candidate must have a master’s or equivalent degree in (bio, agricultural-) engineering (electrical, computer, civil, etc.) or relevant field with an interest in animal production, data analysis and model based control.

-The candidate should be willing to obtain a PhD degree in the field of bio-engineering.

-A PhD consist of in total 4 years. Reporting the project results in international peer reviewed journals is a major task. -The candidate must be able to speak and write English.

-Good knowledge of Dutch is an advantage.

-Working knowledge of MATLAB and experience in mathematical modelling is requested.

-The candidate owns a driver’s license.

Scholarship Description: We are looking for a PhD-student with an interest in the development of an innovative feeding control system for livestock (fattening pigs). The project aims at investigating model based control strategies aiming to maximise the economic benefits for each pig based on feeding pigs according to their individual needs. The candidate will assist the experiments on a commercial research centre. She/ He will be responsible for data analysis and the development of a model based feeding control system taking, in particular, economic measures into account. The project requires a close collaboration with the industrial project partners. The candidate will be employed in a research position at KU Leuven, M3-BIORES (Belgium).
