Walmart First Generation Scholarship for Incoming Freshman in USA

Thurgood Marshall College FundThe Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) and Walmart are offering Walmart First Generation Scholarship for Incoming Freshman in USA. The scholarship is tenable at one of the 47 public Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) within the TMCF member-school network. The scholarship is open for graduating high school senior with a minimum 2.5 GPA. The duration of scholarship is one year which covers the costs of tuition and fees, on-campus room and board and required textbooks purchased from member-schools. Scholarship cannot be renewed for the next academic year. The students of USA can apply for this scholarship.

Eligibility: -Be enrolled as a full-time freshman student at one of TMCF’s 47 member schools for the 2013-2014 academic school year.

-Graduating High School Senior

-Be recommended by the member school’s Faculty or Staff of the member school

-Have demonstrated leadership ability through a variety of measures

-Be a first-generation college student

-Current grade point average of 2.5 or higher

-Be a U.S. Citizen.


Scholarship Open for Students of Following Countries: The students of USA can apply for this scholarship.


Scholarship Description: The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) and Walmart are proud to offer financial assistance to outstanding students who will be incoming freshmen at one of the 47 public Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) within the TMCF member-school network. The Walmart First Generation Scholarship is open to all incoming freshmen/graduating high school seniors with a minimum 2.5 GPA.

What does it cover? Selected scholars will receive a mentor and a one-year merit scholarship of $6,200 for the 2013-2014 academic school year, which will be used to cover the costs of tuition and fees, on-campus room and board and required textbooks purchased from member-schools. The funds are applied in the fall and spring semesters at $3,100 per semester. This is a one-time scholarship and is not renewable.

How to Apply: The mode of applying is online. The application consists of the following:

-Resume (include community service, leadership and employment/internship experience)

-Student Aid Report (received from filing FAFSA)

-Most recent transcript (applicants may upload a copy of either an unofficial or official transcript)

-Recommendation from current school faculty member (must be on school letterhead with signature)

-Essay: In a minimum of 500 words, please address the following question: What does it mean to be the first person in your family to receive a college degree?
