Denmark : PhD Scholarship in Block Copolymer Precursors for Controlled Nanostructuring of Graphene

Technical University of Denmark

We are looking for a candidate to be enrolled in the Center for Nanostructured Graphene, CNG, at the Department of Micro and Nanotechnology, Technical University of Denmark.

You will be part of a highly cross-disciplinary research team. We are therefore looking for people with an interest in team-oriented work.

The aim of this cross-disciplinary project is to synthesize block copolymer precursors and demonstrate fabrication of thin films made from these block copolymers, which show predictable long range order on different substrates. The structural characterization of the materials at each step of fabrication will be realized by applying a variety of techniques including electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy and x-ray scattering. The successful thin film fabrication protocols will be finalized in strong collaboration with other researchers at CNG working on nanopattern transfer to hard substrates and to graphene by application of nanolithographic techniques.

Qualifications

Candidates with background in chemistry or chemical engineering should demonstrate qualifications or interest in the following:

  • Synthesis and characterization of block copolymers with well-defined chain length, composition and architecture

  • Fabrication of block copolymer thin films with demonstrated controlled long range order by a combination of graphoepitaxy, tuned polymer-substrate interfacial energy, spin casting, solvent and thermal annealing

  • Structural characterization of thin films by scanning and transmission electron microscopy, atom force microscopy and grazing incidence small & wide-angle x-ray scattering

  • Team oriented research work

Approval and Enrolment

The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, please see the DTU PhD Guide.

Salary and terms of employment

The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students. The period of employment is 3 years.
