GRAMFC Lab, Research Group on Multimodal Analysis of Brain Function, Inserm U 1105
The Research Group on Multimodal Analysis of Brain Function (GRAMFC, Inserm UMRS 1105) is an internationally renowned research laboratory located at the University Hospital of Amiens and the medical school of Picardy University in Amiens, France, with access to a wide range of experimental facilities – including fMRI (GE 3T MRI scanner), two research-dedicated high resolution EEG systems (equipped for both 64 and 128 channel recordings), four Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS)instruments (frequency domain, and continuous wave systems) forfunctional imaging of human brain. Our group focuses on functional brain development and the cognitive deficits associated with neurological disorders in children of all age groups, from premature infants to adolescents with an emphasis on early language and attention brain development and the effects of epilepsy on cognitive development. We work in collaboration with other research groups from University of Montreal, University of Illinois, and Neurospin.
Our team is conducting a three-year research project involving simultaneous acquisition of EEG and NIRS to investigateelectrophysiological signature of Resting-State Networks (RSNs) and neurovascular coupling mechanisms during the resting state in healthy premature, full-term neonates, and children in early infancy. The project includes 1) spatial identification and assessment of RSNs, 2) investigation of the relationship between hemodynamic fluctuations of RSNs and the dynamics of EEG spectrum, and 3) characterization of the spatiotemporal dynamics of RSNs during brain maturation in neonates.
Applications are invited for a three-year PhD studentship in the medical school of University of Picardy Jules-Verne. It will be under the supervision of Prof. Fabrice Wallois and Dr. Ardalan Aarabi. This studentship is fully funded by the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM). The studentship covers all tuition fees and a maintenance allowance of approximately 1685€ per month.
Applicant must have a M.Sc. degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Physical Science, Neuroscience, or a related field. This position involves analysis of existing multimodal imaging data and collection of new data. Programming experience in MATLAB and C/C++ is desirable. Prior experience in EEG and/or NIRS/fMRI and familiarity with Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM) would be advantageous. Applicant should be self-motivated and must have a willingness to do inter-disciplinary research and collaborative teamwork.
